LOCATION AND HISTORY OF CLUB
The lions club of Brisbane Bunya is situated on the northside of Brisbane in the South East corner of the state of Queensland in Australia.

On 12th February 1981 The Lions club of Brisbane Bunya was officially chartered. Charter night was held on the 28th March 1981. From that night until now, lions club of Brisbane Bunya Inc. has continued to function and currently enjoys a membership of over 40 men and women.
1981/82
During our first full year of operation, A Lioness club was formed. All of the core Lions projects Mints, Cakes, Miss Personality, Youth of the year, were adopted by the club and continue today. Our associations with the Raven street reserve began and are continuing to this day. We took on telephone book deliveries, And we cleaned and repaired and painted a house for a under privileged person.
1982/83
We started our association with the Fire poster competition. We also carried out some hands on projects such as the erecting a tennis shelter for a local school, assisted with the relocation of the Deaf Society from Enoggera, we built an adventure playground for a local school, and painted the local Guide hut.
1983/84
This year was a successful rebuilding year, And our Lion of the year award was started.
1984/85
Our association with camp Duckadang was started this year. It was also a big year for Family BBQ?S
1985/86
We were heavily involved with fund raising by boys from the Solomon Islands who were running from Brisbane to Geelong in Victoria we catered a function for the Redcliffe Coastguard, We planted 150 trees in the Raven street reserve, and provided a chair for a cancer sufferer.
1986/87
We became involved with the Identikid Project, and provided a Jay Cushion for a Motor Neurone sufferer
1987/88
We introduced our public speaking competition for year 11 students at Mitchelton High School to assist in preparation of students for youth of the year, We assisted a family to attend a national Multipolysacaride conference, We had our first involvement with the Royal Children?s Hospital Burns unit Camp. And we continue with this today. We manned the Combined Services Clubs Hospitality Suite at World Expo.
1988/89
PDG Brian Smith was elected to the position of District Governor with four members of our club serving on his cabinet. involvement with the Raven street Reserve was recognized by the Lord mayor of Brisbane at the official opening, We continued with telephone book deliveries in conjunction with Golden Valley Keperra.
1989/90
We erected two shelter sheds at the Environmental site in a nearby suburb and sponsored four attendees to the White cane dinner.
1990/91
The year of the International convention in Brisbane members assisted in various ways during the convention, A new project was street kerb numbering was started.
1991/92
We assisted with fund raising for Cystic Fibrosis around Australia run by the Victorian fire service.
1992/93
DG Roley McAtee was Our first recipient of a Melvin Jones Fellowship.
1993/94
We sponsored the new Lions Club of Bramble Bay Inc. which chartered in September 1993.
1994/95
The club was awarded the District Club of the year. Noel Dowse was our second Melvin Jones Fellow. And planning for the Leo club at Mitchelton High School began.
1995/96
Leo club chartered on the 6th of December.
1996/97
Our first annual debate with the Rotary club of Stafford was conducted in the Brisbane City Council Chambers. We decided to accept Lady Lions and our Lioness club was closed.
1997/98
Our first lady Lions were inducted, We continued with hands on projects with the Raven street Reserve, And raised funds to provide a Hydraulic lift for a handicapped child.
1998/99
We catered for Home Hospitality during the National convention. We erected a bridge in the Raven Street Reserve area, and became involved with CPR 2000. We began Sausage sizzles at a local shopping center and are continuing them until today.
1999/2000
Our club assisted the Lions Club of Grange with their Bingo as their members were unable to handle it on their own, As a result PDG Brian Smith was awarded a James D Richardson award for his efforts. Members of our club were awarded a District treasurer of the year and a Medal of Excellence (Star Award).
2000/01
PDG Brian Smith and Ian Dunsdon were awarded Melvin Jones Fellowships and Life memberships were awarded to Joe Munro and David Rees, Our club numbers increased with members transferring from the Grange club which unfortunately was closed.
2001/02
Barbara Smith was our first Lady president. With the members of Grange we also inherited the Doughnut machines and the venues they serviced. This included the annual Camp Quality Christmas party held on Bribie Island.
2002/03
PDG Roley McAtee was Our second District Governor. Samford Lions Club Sponsored by Bunya in August. We concreted a patio area for a handicapped boy in a walker. May our new BBQ trailer is finished. Cameron Mclauchlan was awarded a Melvin Jones felloship for his efforts.
2003/04
President Jean tricky Trickett's "fun in service" year saw a busy year for Saussage sizzles and Doughnuts. President Jean was awarded the President of the year award by the District Govenor. The year finnished with our "Miss P" entrant doing well. And Garry Lemmo receiving a Melvin Jones Fellowship for his efforts.
2004/05
President Kevin had his year cut short by a work transfer and the Vice presidents stepped up to finish off a good year for the club.
2005/06
Our 25th anniversary celebrations were held during which the club awarded Life Memberships to PDG Brian Smith and Ian Dunsdon, we also awarded Melvin Jones Fellowships to Max Butler and John Whitlock as well as a James D Richardson to Frank Wilson. Our "Youth of the Year" entrant won through to the final.
2006/07
Another good year for the club with President Greg being recycled for a second term.Our Walk for A Aussie Kid was a great success and we look forward to a great future for this project. We completed a building project for the local Scout den.
2007/08
President Frank led us through another busy year. The highlghts being that we were selected to run the 2009 District Convention in Caloundra; We ran the Regional Final of Youth of the Year; And we were selected to run the National launch of Walk for a aussie kid.
2008/09
A great year with the club earning the District CLUB OF THE YEAR Award for the combined efforts of the members and, In no small part to the efforts of the organizing committee for the District Convention in Caloundra. We also received a Barry J Palmer Award from District Q3 For our efforts with the Walk For A Aussie Kid run earlier in the year.

Lionswap the ISP provider for Lions Web Sites has been set-up by the Lions of Turkey (MD118). Work on the programmes/script used to compile Web Pages has been the work of Dr. Enzar Tore of the Canakkale Lions, also of Turkey. The Lions Club of BRISBANE BUNYA consequently displays the national flag of TURKEY on their site as a sign of appreciation of their work/efforts.
